Cypress Earns Distinguished Budget Award

CYPRESS, Calif. - For the eighth consecutive year, the City of Cypress has earned the Government Finance Officers Association's Distinguished Budget Presentation Award, recognizing the City's fiscal year 2026-27 budget and its continued commitment to transparent, responsible and accessible financial planning.

The Distinguished Budget Presentation Award is the highest form of recognition in governmental budgeting and reflects the commitment of elected officials and staff to meeting the highest principles of governmental budgeting. To receive the award, Cypress' budget was evaluated on how well it functions as a policy document, financial plan, operations guide and communications tool. Budgets must be rated proficient in all four categories and 14 mandatory criteria to receive the award.

"A strong budget should make the numbers clear and the priorities even clearer," said Mayor Leo Medrano. "That is the standard our City Council and staff work toward each year. This recognition reinforces our commitment to responsible planning, transparency and accountability to the residents we serve."

The Government Finance Officers Association is a leading professional organization for public finance officials across North America, setting widely recognized standards for excellence in government budgeting and financial management.
