FLETC holds Remembrance Ceremony to honor 25th Anniversary of 9/11

GLYNCO, Ga. Today, the Federal Law Enforcement Training Centers (FLETC) conducted a Remembrance Ceremony to honor the 25th anniversary of the tragic events of September 11, 2001. The ceremony, conducted at FLETC's headquarters in Glynco, Georgia, took place in Building 912, which houses several memorials, including the FLETC 9/11 Memorial.

The FLETC 9/11 Memorial served as the centerpiece of the ceremony and was flanked by Honor Guard members from U.S. Customs and Border Protection and the U.S. Border Patrol. A wreath was laid at the memorial in solemn tribute.

"Today, we pause to mark the 25th anniversary of the attacks on our nation," said FLETC Director Benjamine C. Huffman. "A quarter-century has passed, but our duty to remember remains as important as ever. We remember the nearly 3,000 lives lost, the families forever changed, and the heroes who ran toward danger."

Mr. Samuel Grable, Executive Director of the Air Force Installation and Mission Support Center, Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, Texas, served as the keynote speaker, and delivered heartfelt remarks during the ceremony. "It is my honor being here with you today," Grable said. "Thank you for your willingness to answer the call to protect others. May God bless each of you this day and in the unforeseen days of challenge that ever lie just ahead."

During the ceremony, FLETC recognized and honored the 14 heroes from the FLETC community whose names are etched on the FLETC Graduates Memorial and who were lost due to the attacks of September 11. FLETC remembered the law enforcement officers and agents who gave everything in service to others while protecting the American people, the nation, and the freedoms we hold dear.

"We also honor the 14 federal officers and agents from our own community, recognized on the FLETC Graduates Memorial, who were lost due to the attacks," Huffman said. "A quarter-century has passed, but our responsibility to remember has not diminished. On that Tuesday morning, we witnessed an unimaginable tragedy. But in its aftermath, we also saw the very best of the American spirit."

"As we reflect on this solemn anniversary, we remember the law enforcement officers and agents who gave everything in service to others, protecting our people, our country, and the freedoms we hold dear," Director Huffman said. "Their courage, sacrifice, and devotion to duty remain an enduring part of FLETC's legacy and continue to inspire all who train, teach, and serve across the law enforcement community."

A component of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, FLETC's mission is to train and support the training of federal, state, local, and tribal law enforcement officers and international partners that are responsible for enforcing laws, treaties, and regulations within the United States and abroad.
