ELKRIDGE, MD - Yesterday, Congresswoman Sarah Elfreth (MD-03) hosted the first Maryland Third Congressional District Constituent Resource Fair in Howard County. Elfreth and her team were joined by representatives of 19 federal, state, local, nonprofit, and business partners, covering a range of services from veterans affairs to utilities, employment, health care, and more.
"As your member of Congress, my job is not just to represent your voice in Washington, but to be a resource and conduit on the issues our neighbors face - big or small. Our district has been acutely and disproportionately impacted by the Trump Administration and DOGE, which makes our constituent services all the more important. As my mentor, Senator Barbara Mikulski, would say, 'We cannot guarantee an outcome, but we can guarantee an effort.' My promise to my constituents is that I will always guarantee my full effort," said Congresswoman Sarah Elfreth.
The Maryland Third District Constituent Resource Fair featured representatives from Senator Alsobrooks' office, the Office of the Comptroller of Maryland, the Howard County MGA Delegation, the Maryland Department of Housing & Community Development, the Maryland Department of Veterans & Military Families, the American Legion, the Community Action Council of Howard County, the Maryland Department of Labor, Baltimore Gas & Electric, the Luminus Network, the Myositis Association, the Maryland Insurance Administration, the Community Foundation of Howard County, the Maryland Health Benefit Exchange, the CAO/Office of Talent and Development, the Howard County Office of Consumer Protection, the Grassroots Crisis Intervention Center, Inc., the American Lung Cancer Screening Initiative, and the Howard County Office on Aging and Independence.
"Maryland's veterans, service members, military families, caregivers, and survivors deserve access to trusted support and vital resources, especially during life's most difficult moments," said Lindsay Livingston, Director of Communications, Outreach, and Advocacy at the Maryland Department of Veterans and Military Families. "Resource fairs like this are critical because they bring agencies, organizations, and community partners together to meet people where they are and provide meaningful support when it is needed most. The Maryland Department of Veterans and Military Families is proud to collaborate with Congresswoman Elfreth's Office to help connect military-connected families across Anne Arundel, Baltimore, Howard, and Montgomery counties, as well as Baltimore City, with the benefits, services, and assistance they have earned through their service and sacrifice."
"Every day we hear from customers, families, and businesses who are struggling with rising energy costs and concerned about Maryland's energy future," said Valencia McClure, Exelon's senior vice president of Governmental, Regulatory & External Affairs for Maryland and D.C. "Supporting our customers through these challenges is at the core of the work we do every day. We share Congresswoman Elfreth's commitment to advancing real, practical solutions, and we appreciate the opportunity to participate in her Maryland Third District Constituent Resource Fair-where we can continue that work by connecting customers with bill assistance resources and personalized energy efficiency options."
"As Howard County's free, 24-hour crisis, mental health, substance use and homeless services provider, Grassroots is honored to participate in the Constituent Resource Fair hosted by Congresswoman Sarah Elfreth. At a time when so many individuals and families are facing struggles, events like this are critical to ensuring our community is aware of and knows how to access the valuable services they need to strengthen their daily lives. Strong communities are built when organizations, neighbors and our elected officials come together to ensure that no one has to go through crisis alone," said Dr. Mariana Izraelson, LCADC, Grassroots Executive Director.
"Every day, we see what's possible when people come together to invest in their community," said Melissa Curtin, President & CEO of the Community Foundation of Howard County. "At CFHC, we connect generosity with community need, support the nonprofit organizations strengthening Howard County, and help people become partners in philanthropy and local impact. We're grateful to Congresswoman Elfreth for the opportunity to share our mission and connect with our community through this important event."
"The CAO's Office of Talent and Development is excited to be part of Maryland's Third District Constituent Resource Fair," said Acting Chief Administrative Officer Anne M. Dressendorfer Binsted. "Whether it's answering questions about our House Resume Bank, tips for formatting a cover letter, or insights about working on Capitol Hill, our Talent and Development team is committed to working with all House Members to ensure that job seekers understand the opportunities available in the U.S. House of Representatives."
"Health insurance is essential for the well-being of Marylanders and the strength of our communities. Maryland Health Connection is proud to support Congresswoman Elfreth's resource fair," said Michele Eberle, Executive Director of the Maryland Health Benefit Exchange.
"Centennial ALCSI is grateful for the opportunity to spread awareness about lung cancer screening in the community. Thank you to Congresswoman Elfreth and her team for this opportunity and their support in combating a public health issue affecting Marylanders of all backgrounds," said Matthew Yang, President and Co-founder of the Centennial High School chapter of ALCSI (American Lung Cancer Screening Initiative).
"HCAM is so thankful to take part in this Resource Fair. It is a great opportunity to educate residents about health insurance and other resources, particularly during these challenging economic times," said Ericka Swann, Consumer Assistance Worker with HCAM, Connector Program.
"For 45 years, Luminus Network has been proud to stand with the immigrant residents of central Maryland. We provide immigration legal and referral services to support immigrant communities as they build new homes, new families, new businesses, and new lives, adding to the richness of all of our communities. We are grateful to the Congresswoman's office for organizing tonight's Resource Fair and look forward to strengthening our partnerships to protect these valuable and vulnerable people," said Tina Horn, Chief External Affairs Officer of the Luminus Network.
"Constituent service is such a critical piece of what we as legislators do, and events like the District Resource Fair allow us to reach community members directly, hear their concerns, and make sure they know we are a resource to help them navigate a variety of situations," said Delegate Jessica Feldmark.
"The Myositis Association is proud to participate in Congresswoman Elfreth's Maryland Third District Resource Fair. Rare diseases like myositis affect thousands of Marylanders, yet too many patients go years without answers - navigating a confusing and isolating path to diagnosis and care. Events like today's are vital because they bring resources directly to community members. We're grateful to Congresswoman Elfreth for her commitment to ensuring that all constituents - including those living with rare and complex conditions - have access to the support and information they need," said Paula Eichenbrenner, Executive Director of The Myositis Association.
Congresswoman Elfreth and her team have also provided casework assistance to constituents on a variety of issues with federal agencies, including the Department of Veterans Affairs, Social Security, immigration agencies, and the IRS. To date, Congresswoman Elfreth's team has closed over 2,000 constituent cases and returned over $2.9 million directly to constituents.
