Rep. Richardson and Members of the Veterans and Military Development Committee Tour Lima Army Tank Plant, Host Traveling Committee Meeting

(COLUMBUS, Ohio) - State Representative Tracy Richardson (R-Marysville) and some members of the House Veterans and Military Development Committee took a tour of the Joint Systems Manufacturing Center - also known as the Lima Army Tank Plant - in Lima, Ohio. Richardson and members of the committee were joined by Speaker Matt Huffman (R-Lima) for the tour and committee meeting.

During the tour, committee members learned about the long-standing history of the tank plant and its significance to Ohio. Built in 1942, this facility was used to modify and process combat vehicles used during World War II and then continued to play a role in the Korean War, the Vietnam War, the War in Afghanistan, among others. Today, the plant remains active, manufacturing and producing Army Tanks for the U.S. Military.

"For decades, the Joint Systems Manufacturing Center in the City of Lima has produced the machinery and tanks that our military relies on to protect our country," said Speaker Huffman. "I applaud Rep. Richardson and the members of the Veterans and Military Development Committee for venturing their way across the state to highlight Ohio's strong legacy in military service and national defense."

"Our Committee trip to Lima provided a meaningful opportunity to listen, learn, and to support an important national military manufacturing facility located right here in Ohio," said Richardson, who serves as Chair of the Committee. "We toured the Lima Joint Systems Manufacturing Center, where tanks are made that will help defend our country and secure freedom throughout the world. Following the tour, the Lima community hosted us for a public meeting to engage on topics including the role of defense in ensuring economic stability within the region. I wish to express my gratitude on behalf of the Committee to Speaker Matt Huffman and all who welcomed us and shared their ideas with us."

Following the tour, the committee held a public meeting in Lima, where they heard presentations from Task Force Lima, the Ohio National Guard, Regional Growth Partnership Northwest, Lima Chamber of Commerce, and the Allen County OhioMeansJobs Center, along with updates from several federal offices. The discussion focused on how the committee can best support these entities through its role within the legislature, while also gaining insight into key priorities moving forward.
