Pioneers Park Nature Center Fall Programs Begin September 21

The Pioneers Park Nature Center, 3201 South Coddington Ave., today invited community members to a series of hands-on nature programs beginning September 21. The series offers unique ways to learn and experience nature together and are designed for all ages and interests.

Nature Notes: A Nature Journaling Workshop

Discover the art and science of nature journaling in this creative workshop designed for curious minds of all skill levels. Learn to observe with intention, reflect through writing and drawing, and develop your own journaling style. Participants will receive basic materials and tips for building a personalized journaling kit. Participants must register by September 20.

The event is Sunday, September 21, 1 to 2:30 p.m., at the Prairie Building Auditorium. The fee is $12 per person for adults and youth (age 12+) with an accompanying adult.

Twilight Treks

Join a Nature Center guide on a Twilight Trek to discover the sights, sounds, and stories of the evening landscape. Each session will feature a different theme, from nocturnal animals to stargazing and seasonal storytelling. Participants should dress for the weather and be prepared for a low-light hike along mowed or woodchipped trails. Preregistration is required and the fee is $5 per person per trek.

The schedule is as follows:

  • Friday, September 26, 7 to 8:30 p.m., Pioneers Park Nature Center
  • Friday, October 10, 6:30 to 8 p.m., Frank Shoemaker Marsh, approximately 10110 N. 27th St.
  • Friday, October 24, 6:15 to 7:45 p.m., location to be determined
  • Saturday, November 8, 5:45 to 7:15 p.m., Holmes Lake Park, Hyde Observatory parking lot, 3701 S. 70th St.

Hand in Hand

Designed for children ages 2.5 to 7 and an accompanying adult, this program is a playful and educational nature program focused on exploration, stories, and outdoor adventures. Each 45-minute session will be spent mostly outdoors, engaging in guided hikes and hands-on activities. Up to two children per adult are welcome. Participants will meet in the Prairie Building. The fee is $4 per child per session. Sessions are Tuesdays from 3 to 3:45 p.m. on October 21, November 18 and December 16.
