Stop me if you've heard this one before. MBTA service on the Green Line B Branch will shut down between Kenmore Square and Boston College for tunnel and infrastructure work from April 22 to 30.

The MBTA says the shutdown is needed to allow work on "critical projects" on the B Branch, including the continued installation of Green Line Train Protection System (GLTPS) and replacement of the 130-year-old wooden overhead "trough" that houses the catenary wires near the Green Line portals.

Free, accessible shuttle bus service will carry passengers to stops between Kenmore and Boston College. However, the shuttles won't stop at Packard's Corner, Allston Street, or Griggs Street, due to accessibility limitations. Passengers can also use the 57 bus for free between Kenmore and Packard's Corner.

Long-term disruptions to the Comm Ave-Blandford Street area-like what happened in previous shutdowns-are not expected this time, but there may be temporary traffic or pedestrian closures to accommodate equipment moves.

During the weekend of April 25 to 26, the B Branch suspension will be extended from Copley Square to BC. The suspension that weekend will also include the C Branch, between Copley and Saint Mary's Street, and the D Branch, between Copley and Brookline Hills. Free shuttle buses will run between Boston College and Back Bay on the B Branch; between Park Drive @ Beacon Street and Back Bay on the C Branch; and between Brookline Hills and Back Bay on the D Branch.

On that weekend, the Green Line will also operate on reduced frequency between Copley and Government Center, so all Green Line passengers are encouraged to use the Orange Line from Back Bay to get downtown and back.

The Framingham/Worcester commuter rail line will also be fare-free between South Station, Back Bay, and Lansdowne stations during this Green Line service change.
