After 21 years of dedicated service to Placer County Museums, Administrator Ralph Gibson is retiring, leaving behind a legacy of growth, creativity, and community spirit.
During Gibson's tenure, the county's museum network expanded from six to eight locations with the addition of the DeWitt History Museum and the Fruitvale Schoolhouse Museum. He also led the relocation and reimagining of the Gold Country Museum, transforming it into a vibrant, interactive space that has dramatically increased visitation and expanded educational programming for local schools.
Gibson also took the holidays very seriously and oversaw the expansion of museum decorations and programming from Halloween until Christmas. In the summer months, he revitalized The Heritage Trail, turning it from a single-weekend event into a season-long celebration of local history for both residents and visitors alike.
Beyond his many professional accomplishments, Gibson is known for his warmth, generosity, and tireless dedication to his staff, local historical organizations, and the museum's incredible volunteer team-which has grown to a record 155 active members under his leadership.
"If Ralph were writing this himself, he'd probably remind everyone that the museums are always looking for volunteers," said Bryanna Ryan, Supervising Curator. "His passion for history and people has shaped our program and inspired everyone he's worked with."
Ralph Gibson leaves behind an enduring legacy of friendship, goodwill, and a thriving museum community that will continue to make history for years to come.
