Northern Maine Community College hosted the Spring 2026 Phi Theta Kappa Induction Ceremony for the Alpha Phi Epsilon Chapter at 6 p.m. Wednesday, March 18, recognizing the academic achievement and leadership potential of newly inducted student members.
Established in 1918 by Missouri two-year college presidents, Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society recognizes and encourages academic excellence among students at two-year institutions. The organization also provides opportunities for leadership development, service and personal growth through honors programming. Today, Phi Theta Kappa is the largest honor society in American higher education, with more than 1.3 million members and 1,100 chapters in the United States, U.S. territories, Canada, Germany and Japan. The American Association of Community Colleges designated Phi Theta Kappa as the official honor society for two-year colleges in 1929.
The ceremony began with opening remarks from Robert Carlson, Phi Theta Kappa adviser at Northern Maine Community College, followed by a welcome from NMCC President Doug Binsfeld.
"Grades alone are not why you're here; you are here because of your character, your commitment to leadership and the community you serve," Binsfeld said.
Kari Bradstreet, executive director of Homeless Services of Aroostook, delivered the keynote address.
"Remember that leadership without service is direction without impact, and service without leadership is kindness without a path forward. Leadership and service together are part of the fabric that holds communities together." Bradstreet said.
New members inducted into the Alpha Phi Epsilon Chapter included Thefanie Aballo, Jodie Aragona, Samuel Boone, Brooklyn Brewer, Jacob Caron, Chloee Chisholm, Hanif Comrie, Naomi Cote, Jenna Dean, Kenneth Goslin, Dawson Lamoreau, Taitem Lindsey, Jessica Madore, Adam Noll, Bryce Schubert, Kaitlyn Spinney and Isaac Underwood-Charette.
Phi Theta Kappa officers for the 2025-26 academic year are Joshua Scheff, president; Jordan Hodgkin, vice president of leadership; Joseph Bicknell, secretary; Colby Novak, vice president of fundraising; and Wesley Hitchcock, treasurer.
The program concluded with the formal induction of new members and closing remarks. Refreshments were served following the ceremony.
