Work continues on the redevelopment of the Taulantia Promenade in Durrës

Work is progressing rapidly on the redevelopment of the "Taulantia" promenade in Durrës, a major project financed by the Albanian Development Fund and based on the concept design by the international architecture studio Bofill Taller de Arquitectura.

Prime Minister Edi Rama visited the site today together with the Mayor of Durrës, Emiriana Sako, who said the project is moving forward as planned and includes significant infrastructure and landscaping improvements.

"We are at the Taulantia promenade site, where works began several months ago and have now advanced along the entire stretch. Construction is underway on a 215-metre structure, which will provide shade and serve as an architectural feature. Old benches have been removed, while groundwork is being prepared, new elements installed, and the promenade widened," Mayor Sako said.

She added that the project also includes the installation of protective stone barriers to reduce the impact of winter waves, as well as a full upgrade of the area, including the stormwater system, lighting, new seating, and greenery adapted to the space.

In parallel, the Municipality of Durrës, in cooperation with the Albanian Development Fund, is also implementing an investment to rehabilitate the city entrance. The works include a new cycling lane, asphalt improvements, lighting, landscaping, and a major intervention in the drainage system to handle high water flows, following the recent flooding.

"A particularly important component is the connection of the high-water canal running from Shkozet and the beach area towards Dajlani Bridge. After the flooding we experienced, we met with the contractor and the Albanian Development Fund to ensure the canal is fully opened and that a new culvert is installed, designed to accommodate the high volumes of water recorded during last week's heavy rainfall," Mayor Sako said.

Prime Minister Rama noted that rising waters often bring large amounts of plastic waste, creating serious challenges for drainage channels, and stressed that these interventions must be carried out in parallel. He added that the project will create "a new boulevard of very high quality for the city of Durrës".

Prime Minister Rama described the project as an investment that will have a direct impact on the city's daily life. The works are expected to be completed in May, ahead of the tourist season, adding further value to Durrës as a destination.
