Metso Corporation's press release on June 18, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. EEST
Metso is introducing enhancements in copper electrorefining technology for the sustainable and cost-effective production of LME grade A copper cathodes. Currently, more than 80% of the world's copper is produced with electrorefining, as it gives the highest-purity metal product and the best recovery of valuable impurities. High-purity copper is indispensable for the clean energy transition, telecommunications, electronics and clean water infrastructure.
"Metso's improved electrorefining technology enables seamless material flow. We offer not just individual machines, but also modular electrorefinery layouts and customer-specific optimized solution purification processes. For our customers, an integrated copper electrorefining process - from anodes to cathodes - ensures high-purity cathodes and safe, reliable operation throughout the plant's lifecycle. Total cost of ownership and cathode replacement costs are minimized with machine integration, advanced digital solutions and service support. This technology is suitable for both new and existing operations," says Noora Aro-Koivisto, Copper Electrorefinery Technology Manager at Metso.
