Congressman Kennedy’s Statement on Supreme Court Decision Striking Down Trump’s Illegal Tariffs
Congressman Tim Kennedy (NY-26) released the following statement following today's Supreme Court decision to strike down the Trump administration's tariffs:
"Today's Supreme Court decision is a victory for all Americans being crushed by the rising costs of Donald Trump's reckless tariffs. His trade war has driven up prices on groceries, utilities, and everyday essentials, forcing hardworking families to pay nearly $2,000 more this year.
"Since day one, I have called these tariffs illegal. Now, Trump's hand-picked Supreme Court agrees. This decision reasserts Congress as a coequal branch and that trade policy must be lawful, transparent, and grounded in the economic interests of the American people.
"As Co-Chair of the Northern Border Caucus, I have seen firsthand how these tariffs have created massive disruption for border communities like mine, increasing costs for local businesses, stalling cross-border commerce, threatening jobs on both sides of the border, and ostracizing our greatest allies.
"With the Supreme Court's decision clear, Congress must move forward with Democrats' affordability agenda to bring down costs, strengthen our partnerships across the Northern Border, and build an economy that works for working families."
