Bucharest, 6-8 May 2026 - The Chair of the NATO Military Committee (CMC), Admiral Giuseppe Cavo Dragone, travelled to Bucharest, where he met the Romania's top political and military leadership. CMC called on the Multinational Corps South-East (MNC-SE) and Multinational Division South-East (MND-SE) Headquarters, including the NATO Forward Land Forces Battle Group (FLF BG), in Cincu. Admiral Cavo Dragone also delivered a lecture at the "Nicolae Bălcescu" Land Forces Academy, in Sibiu.
In Bucharest, Admiral Cavo Dragone held meetings with the political leadership, including the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ms. Oana Țoiu, the Minister of National Defence, Mr. Radu-Dinel Miruță, and the State Advisor of the President, Mr. Vlad Ionescu.
Discussions focused on the evolving security situation along NATO's Eastern Flank, highlighting key Romania's contributions in the Black Sea region, as well as its continued investments in defence and in the industry modernisation. "Romania is stepping up, from defence investment efforts to innovation", enhancing its regional leadership in this fulcrum of Euro-Atlantic security," said CMC.
In a meeting with the Chief of Defence, General Gheorghiță Vlad, CMC commended the professionalism of the Romanian Armed Forces and their sustained commitment to NATO missions, activities, and operations, on the Eastern Flank and across the Alliance. Specifically, Admiral Cavo Dragone underlined Romania's key involvement in vigilance activities, such as Eastern Sentry, adding that "Romania's ability to respond swiftly, decisively and effectively contributes to NATO's continued adaptation and readiness, across every domain."
In Bucharest, Admiral Cavo Dragone also visited the HQ MND-SE, under the operational control of HQ MNC-SE, based in Sibiu, with the mission of deterring any hostile intents against the Alliance and providing command and control of NATO land operations at corps-level. During a meeting with the MNC-SE Commandant, Lieutenant General Cristian-Daniel Dan, the Chair received an update on the MNC-SE priorities, ongoing activities, and its role in planning and coordinating multinational training and reinforcement across the Eastern Flank. While in Sibiu, CMC also visited the "Nicolae Bălcescu" Land Forces Academy, where he engaged with leadership, instructors, and officer cadets, highlighting the institution's role in developing future leaders through education, doctrine, and professional military training.
In Cincu Training Area, Camp "Général Berthelot", Admiral Cavo Dragone addressed soldiers of the NATO Forward Land Forces Battle Group (FLF BG), led by France, with key contributions from Belgium, Luxembourg, and Spain. CMC thanked the troops for their dedication and emphasised how their training, integration, and high readiness are essential to provide the Alliance with credible deterrence. "This is where unity takes on real meaning; through discipline, interoperability, and the daily commitment of Allied forces serving side by side," he noted, stressing that readiness remains a capability built through sustained training and shared procedures.
