Easing the Family's Burden, PT Timah Assists with Medical Expenses for Ropianti, Acid Attack Victim Mistaken for Someone Else

PANGKALPINANG -- PT Timah Tbk has once again demonstrated its care for the community by providing financial assistance for the medical treatment of Ropianti (29), a victim of an acid attack that occurred in Paritlalang, Pangkalpinang, Bangka Belitung Islands.

The aid was handed over directly by PT Timah's Division Head of CSR, Rahmat Taufik, together with the Acting Head of the Pangkalpinang Health Office, Dr. Muhammad Thamrin, at PT Timah's Pangkalpinang office on Thursday, October 2, 2025.

Ropianti, a housewife, suffered serious injuries to her face, neck, and chest after being mistakenly targeted in the acid attack. She must now undergo a series of major surgeries, which come with significant medical costs.

The burden became even heavier as the expenses were not covered by the national health insurance program (BPJS), forcing the family to bear the costs on their own-supported only by donations and loans from relatives.

The victim's husband, Prakoso, explained that his wife was an unintended victim of the acid attack.

"It happened at night. Someone knocked on our door, and when my wife opened it, the attacker immediately threw acid at her. After the investigation, the perpetrators admitted they had mistaken her for someone else," he said.

He added that his wife requires multiple major surgeries to repair the damaged skin tissue caused by the acid.

He expressed his deep appreciation and gratitude to PT Timah for helping ease the financial burden of his wife's medical treatment.

"Alhamdulillah, I am truly thankful to PT Timah for this support. On behalf of my family, I greatly appreciate their concern for our situation," he said.

Appreciation was also expressed by Acting Head of the Pangkalpinang Health Office, Dr. Muhammad Thamrin, who praised PT Timah's swift response as a genuine example of corporate concern for the community.

"On behalf of myself and the institution, I thank PT Timah for assisting a Pangkalpinang resident affected by this tragedy. May the company continue to succeed," he stated.

Through its Corporate Social and Environmental Responsibility (TJSL) program, PT Timah remains committed to supporting the community, particularly in the health sector. This support for the acid attack victim serves as further proof of the company's readiness to respond to urgent needs in times of crisis.
