egg Power, Liberty Global's clean energy business, has secured the project rights to Pilmoor Solar Farm in Yorkshire from PS Renewables (PSR).
Its fifth acquisition sees it acquire the 72MW farm which will generate enough electricity to power 21,000 homes and removing 9,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions annually.
Expected to be operational in Q4 2027, the project is construction-ready with an agreement in place with PSR to build it. A 20-year offtake is in place for the power that will be generated.
Pilmoor Solar will deliver significant economic benefits to North Yorkshire, supporting around 150 construction jobs and generating an estimated £1.7 million of economic output during the build phase. The project is also expected to contribute approximately £160,000 per year in business rates while creating additional opportunities for local suppliers, contractors and service providers.
It builds on egg's recent acquisition of a number of solar and wind assets across the UK, including the Chirmorie Wind Farm in South Ayrshire, where Amazon has signed the largest onshore wind Power Purchase Agreement in the UK. With this acquisition, egg Power's portfolio has increased to 304 MW of renewable energy projects.
In January, egg also secured £400m in non-recourse financing from NatWest to fund further acquisitions.
Ilesh Patel who leads the egg Power business at Liberty Global said: "We are continuing on our path supporting the UK's energy transition with our largest solar acquisition. We already have an excellent portfolio of projects to help our customers meet their energy needs and have the financing and expertise to bring more ready-to-build assets to fruition."
Jose Luis Gandia, Managing Director at PS Renewables, said: "Pilmoor Solar represents our second solar project in partnership with egg Power and is a strong endorsement of the quality of projects our teams are bringing forward and our ability to deliver them successfully. With enough capacity to power more than 21,000 homes, it will make a meaningful contribution to improving energy security and supporting the UK's net zero ambitions."
As a wholly-owned part of Liberty Growth - Liberty Global's investment arm focused on scalable technology, media, sports, services and infrastructure - egg Power is strategically positioned to meet the accelerating clean energy needs of telecoms operators, digital infrastructure providers and other energy-intensive industries. This demand is being driven by the surge in AI adoption and exponential growth in data usage, heightening the need for reliable, sustainable power at scale
egg Power's projects, which leverage Liberty Global's expertise in financing large-scale infrastructure, investing in scale-up businesses and serving B2B customers, will also deliver tangible local benefits. These include creating jobs during construction and operations, sourcing from local supply chains, ecological improvements such as planting native grasslands and wildflower meadows, reinforcing hedgerows and establishing habitat strips on site
