Portland, OR - Yesterday it was revealed that acting Attorney General Todd Blanche said on a private call with religious extremists that he is actively working "so that the Dobbs decision becomes permanent in every single state." If Blanche was successful, that could create a de facto abortion ban in Oregon. Christine Drazan, who supports the Dobbs decision, has refused to comment on whether she supports the efforts of Blanche and the Trump administration to criminalize health care access for Oregonians.

During the Republican primary, Drazan received the endorsement of radical anti-abortion group Oregon Right to Life, which opposes abortion even in cases of rape, incest, or health of the mother. They also oppose other forms of contraception, and other reproductive rights such as IVF. Drazan was also endorsed by them in her failed 2022 gubernatorial campaign.

These positions put her wildly out of step with the vast majority of Oregon voters. When a statewide abortion ban was last on the ballot in 2018, voters rejected the measure by a ratio of nearly 2-to-1.

At a time when bodily autonomy is being attacked, Oregonians deserve to know: will Christine Drazan respect Oregon's laws defending abortion, or will she once again fall in line with the Trump administration's radical agenda?

"When someone needs an abortion, they deserve dignity, trust, and access to care without delay, fear, or politicians standing between them and their doctor," said Democratic Party of Oregon Executive Director Candy Emmons. "Thanks to Oregon Democrats like Tina Kotek, Oregon remains a national leader in protecting that freedom. Now Todd Blanche and national Republicans are openly working to take it away in every state, Christine Drazan's record makes clear whose side she is on. She stands with the extremists threatening women's health, lives, and futures. It is more evidence that she is completely out of touch with Oregon voters and unqualified to serve as governor."
