South Fulton, GA - The City of South Fulton proudly joins municipalities across the United States and around the world in recognizing the 56th Annual Professional Municipal Clerks Week, which is annually observed the first full week of May.
This observance, celebrated in countries including Australia, Belgium, Bermuda, Bulgaria, Canada, England, Italy, the Netherlands, New Zealand, South Africa, and Wales, honors the essential contributions of Municipal Clerks to the efficient functioning of local government.
In acknowledgment of the vital role Clerks serve within municipal governance, Presidents Ronald Reagan (1984) and Bill Clinton (1994) each issued official proclamations designating the first full week of May as Professional Municipal Clerks Week. These proclamations underscore the Clerk's indispensable position as the cornerstone of local legislative operations.
While the position of Municipal Clerk is among the oldest in public administration, it is also one of the most underrecognized. Municipal and Deputy Clerks perform a diverse range of critical functions including but not limited to:
These duties demand accuracy, impartiality, and a high degree of public trust-qualities which Municipal Clerks must consistently uphold in their daily responsibilities.
The International Institute of Municipal Clerks (IIMC), the global professional association for City, Town, Township, Village, Borough, Deputy, and County Clerks, sponsors Professional Municipal Clerks Week. Founded in 1947, IIMC comprises over 15,000 members and is dedicated to the continuing education and professional development of Municipal Clerks, thereby enhancing the efficiency and transparency of local governments worldwide.
The City of South Fulton commends its City Clerk's Office for exemplary service and commitment to democratic governance, transparency, and public service.
