BURBANK, CA - Today, June 18, 2026, U.S. Representative Laura Friedman (CA-30) convened the 2nd meeting of her LGBTQ+ Advisory Committee to discuss the latest attacks from the Trump Administration on the LGBTQ+ community. Friedman shared updates on her legislative agenda on LGBTQ rights, and listened to concerns from local leaders.

"This administration has not let up in its efforts to scapegoat and attack our LGBTQ friends and communities in an attempt to distract from their utter policy failures. Throughout it all, I've never broken ranks with our LGBTQ neighbors," said Representative Laura Friedman (CA-30). "I will continue to hold the line and drive back future attacks on the lives and rights of LGBTQ Angelenos."

Friedman is a champion for LGBTQ+ Angelenos, having taken the Trump administration to task for its attacks on HIV resources and the transgender community. She also took action to oppose the elimination of life-saving gender affirming care, restrictive passport gender markers, and the ban on transgender military service members. Last June, she pressured the Trump Administration to restore over $19 million in HIV prevent grants for Los Angeles clinics and is a cosponsor of numerous pieces of legislation that protect LGBTQ individuals, including the Equality Act, Fair and Equal Housing Act, Pride in Mental Health Act and the Elder Pride Protection Act.

Friedman was joined by LA LGBT Center Chief Strategy Officer Terra Russell-Slavin, Bienestar Human Services Health Educator Andrew Flores, APLA Health Local Affairs Specialist on Government Affairs Katja Nelson, JQ International CEO Asher Gellis, TransLatin@ Coalition Statewide Policy Initiatives Organizer Angel Jaimes, Equality CA Executive Director Tony Hoang, Rainbow Labs Director of Operations Grecia Mondragón, Rainbow Labs Program Coordinator BrandElsa Pereira, and LA County LGBTQ+ Commission Executive Director Sunitha Menon.
