KI Expands Green Bay Furniture Manufacturing Facility

GREEN BAY - Back-to-back record-breaking years have led contract furniture manufacturer KI to undertake a 33,400-square-foot addition to its manufacturing facility, adjacent to its corporate headquarters on Bellevue Street in Green Bay, Wisconsin.

Construction is officially underway on the Phase 1 expansion, led by Bayland Buildings as the project's general contractor. The new steel addition will initially serve as a dedicated warehouse space and is scheduled for completion in January 2026. The initial expansion will provide the square footage and functionality needed to support Phase 2.

"These expansions will allow us to control our quality, lead times, and operations, while leveraging continuous improvement and developing the 'factory of the future'," said Tim Heyrman, Green Bay general manager, KI. "The additional space will provide us with the opportunity to re-layout the facility for optimal flow and focus on automation such as guided vehicles and storage/retrieval systems."

Phase 2 construction is set to break ground in October 2025 and is scheduled for completion in May 2026. The expansion is strategically planned to be ready ahead of the company's peak manufacturing season, ensuring increased capacity to meet growing demand.

"The K-12 and higher education markets are fueling our growth," Heyrman said. "That leads to heavy production in June, July, and August. The addition will increase capacity in assembly and fabrication areas as well as warehouse storage."

Together, the two expansions will bring KI's Green Bay manufacturing facility to more than 500,000 square feet. The original building was 200,000 square feet. KI has expanded twice, adding 120,000 square feet in 2012 to bolster manufacturing, shipping, receiving, and warehouse space; and in 2017, another 63,000 square feet provided space for custom injection molding equipment and seven shipping docks.
