Sen. Ossoff Questions Secretary Hegseth on Iran War

Washington, D.C. - U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff, a member of the U.S. Senate Appropriations Committee, today pressed Department of Defense (DoD) Secretary Pete Hegseth on the accuracy of statements he's made during the Iran War as the Administration requests tens of billions of dollars more for the war.

Sen. Ossoff pressed Secretary Hegseth about public statements he's made on the Iranian military being "destroyed" and "made combat ineffective," despite the fact that the war has continued and American forces in the region remain under attack, including the servicemembers being killed this past weekend.

"So, just to review, you will not answer whether your statement made on the 14th day of the war that Iran's military had been 'destroyed' and 'made combat ineffective' was a truthful statement to the American people. As you sit here and ask for tens of billions more for the Conflict," Sen. Ossoff asked Secretary Hegseth.

Secretary Hegseth refused to answer Sen. Ossoff's question or answer if any of his past statements were accurate.

Sen. Ossoff also expressed his condolences over the servicemembers killed this past weekend.

"General Caine, let me just begin by expressing, on behalf of all Georgians, our immense gratitude and admiration for the servicemembers who are making tremendous sacrifices and conducting themselves with extraordinary selflessness and professionalism on behalf of the United States and our state's unified condolences and grief for the families of the four killed in action, and our hope for a swift recovery for the nearly 100 wounded over the last two weeks. And thank you to you for your service to the nation," said Sen. Ossoff.
