RRC Commissioner Wayne Christian Celebrates the Agency's Award-Winning Public Engagement

October 30, 2026

AUSTIN, Texas - RRC Commissioner Wayne Christian today commended agency staff for receiving the Interstate Oil and Gas Compact Commission (IOGCC) Chair's Stewardship Award in Energy Education. The award recognizes the work of the RRC's Office of Public Engagement and Communications Division for excellence in educating Texans about the oil and natural gas industry through clear communication, accessible information and meaningful public outreach.

"Public engagement is a top priority for the RRC," Christian said. "The Commission has long been committed to strengthening public outreach and ensuring Texans have access to accurate information about their state energy regulator and the vital role oil and natural gas play in our daily lives. This award recognizes our staff's hard work to advance that mission, and I'm proud to congratulate our Office of Public Engagement and the Communications Division on this well-deserved honor."

Christian also highlighted the RRC's expanded monthly listening sessions, held on the second Tuesday of each month, both in person and virtually. These sessions provide Texans an opportunity to learn more about the RRC's work, ask questions and share their perspectives on the agency's regulatory oversight directly with agency staff.

"Education is a two-way street," Christian added. "We need to hear directly from the people with boots on the ground while helping Texans better understand the RRC's vital role in the safe and responsible development of our state's energy resources. That's why we've expanded our listening sessions to monthly events and created opportunities for Texans across the state to participate both in person and virtually. I encourage anyone who wants to learn more about our agency or provide feedback to sign up and make their voice heard."

Texans who wish to speak during a listening session must register in advance, whether participating in person, online or by phone. Learn more and register for an upcoming session on the RRC's listening session webpage.
