605 All-Star Band a hit at the Rose Parade

605 All-Star Band a hit at the Rose Parade

Published on January 08, 2025

If you missed the Jan. 1 Rose Parade, you can watch the KTLA 5 replay of the 136th Rose Parade presented by Honda from New Year's Day.

See the 605 All Star Band perform at the 1:41:19 mark of the video. And note their unique and colorful uniforms that drew special praise from the announcers.

Over 500 students from Artesia, Bellflower, Cerritos, John Glenn, Gahr, La Mirada, Mayfair and Norwalk high school bands came together on Jan. 1 as the 605 All-Star Band, representing three school districts along the 605 Freeway. (ABC, Bellflower and Norwalk-La Mirada unified school districts participated; Long Beach USD did not because it was not feasible to include only Lakewood High School and exclude the many other high schools in the district.)

The 605 All-Star Band was one of the largest bands to play and march in the history of the Rose Parade.

The band was conceived by Mayfair High School's band director Tom Philips. Each school's band rehearsed separately throughout the year, but came together for several practice parades, including one on Dec. 1 that came to Lakewood. Lakewood High School's band joined for that practice parade.

See Lakewood CityTV's video about the Dec. 1 practice parade.

The theme of the 136th Rose Parade was "Best Day Ever!" and it certainly was for these young performers and their proud families.
