Roadway Flooding Related to King Tides Expected This Week
Higher than usual king tides are predicted this week with tides expected to reach record levels as high as 2.8 feet NAVD, which is approximately 1.5 feet higher than the level where flooding typically begins in the lowest-lying areas of Fort Lauderdale.
What to Expect
We anticipate significant water on roadways during the twice-daily high tide cycles through Tuesday, October 14. Peak high tide times (rounded to the nearest quarter hour):
Up to one inch of rainfall is predicted daily, which will exacerbate tidal flooding, especially when rain falls during peak high tide times.
City Preparedness and Response
While pumping efforts are not effective at reducing tidal flooding, City crews are ready to respond as needed to ensure clear drainage infrastructure, manage traffic safety and address debris.
What Neighbors Can do to Help
King tide impacts are expected throughout the final months of 2025. Learn more about how to prepare and how the City is investing in solutions to help reduce flooding related to king tides at https://www.fortlauderdale.gov/kingtides.
