Is spring cleaning at the top of your "to do" list, and you shudder to think about it? No worries! To help you declutter your home and garage, the City of Tallahassee's "Cash for Trash" event is back! The biannual event will be held on Saturday, April 18, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the City's Community Beautification and Waste Management facility, located at 2727 Major James Morgan Jr. Way (formerly Municipal Way), near Messer Field.

"Cash for Trash" is traditionally held each year on the third Saturday in April and October. It enables residential customers to properly dispose of household bulk trash items, as well as household hazardous waste.

This event is not for commercial business customers.

As a thank you, participating City residential customers with active garbage service will receive a $5 credit toward their utility bill. Customers can make multiple trips; however, only one $5 credit per utility account will be issued.

Examples of items residents may bring to "Cash for Trash" include furniture, large and small household appliances, household hazardous waste, electronic items (including computers) and tires (limit four per customer, no commercial tires). Batteries, cleaners, paints, pesticides and solvents are also accepted. These household hazardous waste items can have a serious impact on the environment if improperly disposed of through the trash or sewer system.

Although the City encourages residential utility customers to use their every-other-week bulky item collection service for disposing of large items at curbside, "Cash for Trash" is especially useful for those who live in apartments or have several large items to dispose.

No household garbage, yard waste or construction/demolition debris will be accepted.

Because of its commitment to fostering an environmentally sustainable community, the City continues to be a leader in the field. In 2025, the National Civic League named Tallahassee an All-America City for the third time. Events and programs such as "Cash for Trash" and single-stream recycling, put into action the organization's commitment to environmental-friendly practices.

"Cash for Trash" is coordinated by the City's Community Beautification and Waste Management department. For more information, visit Talgov.com/YOU or call City of Tallahassee Utilities at 850-891-4968.
