Piedmont Natural Gas technicians wrangle third consecutive title at national rodeo competition

  • Piedmont and Duke Energy teams take home several awards from the 2025 National Gas Rodeo

  • Rodeo competitors demonstrate the skills they use daily to provide customers with safe, reliable natural gas service

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - A four-person team of Piedmont Natural Gas technicians from Greenville, S.C., earned the overall championship at the 2025 National Gas Rodeo. This marks the third consecutive title for the Greenville team and the eighth time Piedmont has won the national championship.

What is the rodeo?

Piedmont and its parent company, Duke Energy, hosted the National Gas Rodeo for the second straight year at Turfway Park in Florence, Ky. The annual competition allows natural gas workers to showcase their skills and to see how they stack up against their industry peers.

The National Gas Rodeo pits two-person and four-person teams against each other in four qualifying events, with the top 10 teams in each division advancing to a final relay event. Qualifying events include the service installation, the meter set, the hand dig and the pipe cut. In the final relay, teams safely race to complete a series of tasks in the fastest time possible.

Our view

"The National Gas Rodeo showcases the value our crews and technicians bring to our customers every day while responding to emergencies and servicing our natural gas infrastructure," said Brian Weisker, president of Piedmont Natural Gas. "Their hard work, skill and commitment to safety and excellence truly represent the best of our industry, and we're incredibly proud to bring home another national championship."
