Texas Drilling Permit and Completion Statistics for September 2025

AUSTIN - The Railroad Commission of Texas issued a total of 587 original drilling permits in September 2025. The total includes 516 to drill new oil or gas wells, 7 to re-enter plugged wellbores, 9 field transfers, 53 for re-completion, and 2 reclass.
The breakdown of well types for total original drilling permits in September 2025 is: 127 oil, 51 gas, 371 oil and gas, 27 injection and 11 other permits.


In September 2025, Commission staff processed 1,301 oil, 394 gas, and 249 injection completions.
