A group exhibition exploring weaving, beading, material transformation, and the cultural histories embedded in textile practices.
SAN FRANCISCO, CA (September 30, 2026) - The Swig Company is pleased to present Interlaced, a group exhibition bringing together ten contemporary artists whose practices expand the languages of weaving, beading, and fiber through processes of reconstruction and material accumulation.
Featuring Pilar Agüero-Esparza, Miguel Arzabe, T.J. Dedeaux-Norris, Erica Dincalci, Kira Dominguez Hultgren, Josh Faught, Terri Friedman, John Paul Morabito, Gabby Severson, and Charlene Tan, Interlaced considers textile and beadwork traditions as ways of carrying and constructing meaning. Across the exhibition, individual threads, beads, fibers, and fragments are joined to form larger structures and images, offering a framework for examining identity, memory, cultural inheritance, labor, and belonging.
Long associated with domestic, ceremonial, communal, and decorative traditions, weaving and beadwork carry histories that extend well beyond conventional distinctions between art and craft. The artists in Interlaced draw upon these histories while adapting their techniques to distinctly contemporary concerns.
For several artists in the exhibition, the slow and repetitive processes of weaving and beading provide a particularly powerful means of engaging personal narrative. Beads become individual units of mark-making and storytelling, accumulated one by one to construct images and surfaces that speak to lived experience, identity, family, and cultural memory. Similarly, weaving becomes a means of connecting individual experience to larger cultural histories.
