Yaw, Hamm: $250,000 Awarded in Cherry Township

HARRISBURG -State Sen. Gene Yaw (R-23) and State Rep. Joe Hamm (R-84) today announced $250,000 in state funding has been awarded in Cherry Township, Sullivan County through the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA). The award was considered at today's CFA Board meeting and approved through the Authority's Small Water and Sewer (SWS) Program.

"Today's award will enhance public safety and ensure our region's infrastructure meets the needs of residents for years to come," Yaw said. "I was pleased to advocate for this funding and work with my colleagues in the General Assembly and our local officials to help make these projects a reality."

"It is vitally important that we ensure our rural infrastructure is maintained and upgraded to meet increasing requirements by our state and federal governments," Hamm said. "The Mildred Wastewater Treatment Plant project will be upgraded with these funds, and I was proud to support the project. I was pleased to work with our Senator to advocate for this funding for Cherry Township."

Funding awarded to the Township will be used for upgrades to its Mildred Wastewater Treatment Plant, which faces significant challenges due to aging and difficulty meeting increasing regulatory requirements. Improvements will ensure compliance with Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection mandates and protect Birch Creek, a high-quality cold-water fishery in the Chesapeake Bay Watershed.

The SWS Program provides grants for small water, sewer and storm water infrastructure projects. Municipalities and municipal authorities that own and maintain a public water supply, sanitary sewer or storm water systems are eligible to apply if their projects exceed a total cost of $30,000.
