APIC Statement on the Tragic Shooting at CDC Headquarters

Arlington, VA - August 15, 2025 - The Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC) expresses deep sorrow and unwavering support for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) following the tragic shooting at its Atlanta headquarters on August 8, 2025. This senseless act of violence, which claimed the life of a responding officer and left staff shaken, underscores the growing hostility faced by public health professionals.

We stand firmly with the CDC and its dedicated workforce, whose commitment to science, safety, and public health remains vital to our nation's well-being. APIC condemns all forms of violence and misinformation that threaten the integrity and safety of our public health institutions.
