Stony Brook NCLEX Pass Rate Ranks Above National and Region Averages

Stony Brook University School of Nursing's National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) first-time pass rate outpaced national and regional averages in 2025.

SBU baccalaureate graduates passed the NCLEX-RN exam at a rate of 91.03 percent - nearly 10 points higher than the national average and 13 points better than competitor nursing schools in New York State.

"This exceptional outcome reflects the tireless dedication, resilience and commitment of the Class of 2025, who worked diligently throughout the program to achieve academic and professional success," said Janet M. Galiczewski, chair of the Department of Undergraduate Studies in the School of Nursing.

"Equally integral to this success is the unwavering dedication of the undergraduate nursing faculty," Galiczewski added. "Faculty members are deeply committed to supporting students throughout their educational journey, providing guidance, mentorship and academic support while in the program and continuing to assist graduates as they prepare for and navigate the NCLEX-RN process."

The School of Nursing offers two pre-licensure baccalaureate programs: a basic four-year program and a twelve-month accelerated option for students who already hold a bachelor's degree.

Graduates of the Accelerated Baccalaureate Program boasted an NCLEX-RN pass rate of 92.31 percent, and those who completed the Basic Baccalaureate Program passed the exam at an 89.74 percent rate.

"Achieving a top-decile NCLEX pass rate once again is a powerful reflection of our students' dedication, our faculty's unwavering commitment and the strength of our academic community," said School of Nursing Dean Patricia Bruckenthal.

"The School of Nursing remains dedicated to preparing practice-ready graduates who will contribute meaningfully to the health and well-being of the communities they serve," she added.
