BEIJING, Sept. 18 -- The 12th Beijing Xiangshan Forum opened today at the Beijing International Convention Center. Chinese Defense Minister Admiral Dong Jun attended and delivered a keynote address.
Dong noted that this year marks the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War. At this crucial moment of remembering history and jointly creating a better future, Dong emphasized the importance of upholding the correct historical perspective on World War II, steadfastly defending historical justice, and building the broadest possible consensus. The Chinese military stands ready to work with all parties to safeguard sovereign equality, protect the post-war order, support multilateralism, maintain common interests, and jointly promote the reform and improvement of the global governance system. He stressed the need to pursue the righteous path of safeguarding peace, advocate the concept of peace, serve as a stabilizing force for peace, develop peaceful friendships, and provide positive energy for the world's lasting peace and security.
Dong stated that in an era fraught with challenges, cooperation is the best choice. The Chinese military will work with all parties to build a security barrier through concrete actions, continuously deepen military mutual trust, strengthen multilateral coordination, enhance the quality and effectiveness of cooperation, improve cooperation mechanisms, and make new and greater contributions to maintaining world peace and building a community with a shared future for humanity.
The theme of this year's forum is "Upholding International Order and Promoting Peaceful Development". The event brings together over 1,800 guests, including official representatives, experts, scholars, and observers from more than 100 countries, regions, and international organizations.
