Residency is a critical phase of graduate medical training, wherein residents practice medicine under the close supervision of attending physicians. Successful completion of a residency program is essential for obtaining a medical license in the United States.
"It is a great honor to participate in the graduation ceremony of our residency program," said Michael Motte. "Over the years, this program has been integral in reducing health disparities by increasing access to quality medical care in the community. I have witnessed the remarkable growth of these residents, and I am excited to see them flourish in their future endeavors."
Shawn Parekh, CEO of Roxborough Memorial Hospital, echoed this sentiment, stating, "Today marks a significant milestone not only for these graduates but also for the communities they will serve. The dedication and resilience these residents have shown during their training are truly commendable. As they move forward in their careers, I have no doubt they will continue to make a positive impact on the lives of their patients."
The residency program at Suburban Community Hospital provides a comprehensive learning environment through various settings, including hospitals, ambulatory care, emergency departments, and specialized rotations. Residents receive training in a wide range of specialties, including pediatrics, behavioral health, wound care, podiatry, cardiology, geriatrics, dermatology, gynecology, obstetrics, general surgery, orthopedics, nephrology, urology, and pulmonology.
"You are leaving Suburban Community Hospital today having made countless memories together," remarked Dr. Mathew Mathew, Chief Medical Officer and Internal Medicine Program Director of Roxborough Memorial Hospital, during his speech. "You have endured long hours and sleepless nights, often away from your loved ones, but today you stand as graduates, and that is a remarkable achievement."
As residency training is required for physicians in the U.S., each year, the program attracts numerous applicants who seek accredited graduate medical education. Following a rigorous selection process, applicants are matched with residency programs through the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP).
The Suburban Community Hospital Residency Program, which has trained both Osteopathic and Allopathic physicians, boasts a rich history of collaboration with esteemed universities in the Philadelphia region. Residents benefit from exposure to a diverse patient population, gaining invaluable experience in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
Looking ahead, the residency program will continue to operate under Roxborough Memorial Hospital, a part of Prime Healthcare. This transition strengthens the program's commitment to medical excellence and reinforces the hospital's mission to train the next generation of physicians. The program will continue to offer Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, and Preliminary Medicine tracks.
