Traffic advisory for additional July 4 road closures at Anacostia Park

WASHINGTON - On Saturday, July 4, the National Park Service will host a special fireworks display at Anacostia Park in Southeast D.C. In conjunction with this event will be additional traffic closures - some began last week for setup - that the public should take into consideration.

The following will remain closed 24 hours a day to all vehicle and pedestrian traffic through July 7:

  • The area around Poplar Point from the Fredrick Douglass Bridge to 1901 Anacostia Drive SE

The following will be closed to vehicle traffic from 12 a.m. to 11:59 p.m. on July 4:

  • All of Anacostia Drive SE within Anacostia Park
  • South Capitol Street to Anacostia Drive SE
  • Martin Luther King Jr Avenue at Marion Barry Avenue SE
  • Nicholson Street at Fairlawn Avenue SE
  • Howard Road/Metro Gate entrance

The CSX rail line to the Frederick Douglass Bridge area will be fenced and closed from 5 a.m. to 1 p.m. on July 4 for a security sweep. After that is complete, public access will be granted through three designated security points where all visitors will be screened for prohibited items:

  • Marion Barry Avenue at Aviation Roadway (north of Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue SE)
  • Nicholson Street at Fairlawn Avenue SE
  • Anacostia Riverwalk Trail at Field 7
