The City of Carrollton joins communities across the nation in challenging residents this April to make a long-term commitment to conserve water, reduce pollution, and use natural resources more efficiently.
April is recognized as Water Conservation Month due to high demand during the spring season. Local actions help protect water quality and ensure a sustainable supply for the people, businesses, and wildlife that depend on it. By participating in the 16th annual Wyland National Mayor's Challenge for Water Conservation, Carrollton residents can play an active role in protecting the environment while competing to win eco-friendly prizes.
To take the challenge, visit the National Mayor's Challenge for Water Conservation or mywaterpledge.com, from Wednesday, April 1 through Thursday, April 30 to make a series of simple pledges. Examples of pledges include:
Cities with the highest percentage of residents involved can win prizes for participants, including $3,000 toward home utility bills, irrigation smart controllers, home improvement gift cards, and more. This year, the challenge also features a Water Footprint Calculator to help people understand their everyday water use and how pledge choices impact local issues tied to health, sustainability, and community well-being.
This annual, non-profit community service initiative began more than a decade ago, conceived by a group of mayors searching for innovative ways to engage communities in addressing water challenges across the United States. Each year, residents from more than 2,000 cities pledge to reduce their freshwater consumption by billions of gallons, cut millions of pounds of waste sent to landfills, and prevent thousands of pounds of hazardous waste from entering local watersheds.
The National Mayor's Challenge for Water Conservation is presented by the Wyland Foundation, with support from the U.S. EPA WaterSense, The Toro Company, Zenni Optical, and the National League of Cities.
