Key Points:

  • The AFIA Equine Committee Video Group was honored with the 2025 AFIA Member of the Year award for creating an educational video series dispelling misconceptions about equine feed ingredients.
  • The videos highlight the safety, nutritional value and innovation of horse feeds while showcasing AFIA's commitment to supporting safe equine diets.
  • Shared widely through universities, industry partners and horse associations, the series expanded AFIA's outreach and strengthened trust with horse owners.

The American Feed Industry Association (AFIA) proudly recognized members of the Equine Committee Video Group with the 2025 Member of the Year award on Tuesday evening at an AFIA member reception.

"The AFIA proudly recognizes the 2025 Member of the Year - the Equine Committee's video group. This dedicated team of members went above and beyond to produce a series of educational videos that highlight the safety, nutritional value and innovation of equine feeds," stated AFIA President and CEO Constance Cullman. "Their efforts have not only strengthened AFIA's outreach to horse owners and industry partners but also helped dispel common misconceptions about feed ingredients."

The AFIA Member of the Year award is generally presented to an AFIA member who exhibits outstanding support in achieving the organization's goals and objectives throughout the year. With the exception of the 83 members of the Food Safety Modernization Act Working Group who received the award in 2014, and the entire AFIA membership following the COVID-19 outbreak in 2021, only 50 individuals have been honored prior to this year.

The AFIA Equine Committee created a series of short, approachable social media videos to address misconceptions about wheat middlings, soy products and innovative ingredients in horse feeds. Featuring committee members speaking directly to horse owners, the videos highlight the safety, nutritional benefits and value of these ingredients while showcasing AFIA's role in supporting safe equine diets. The group also partnered with universities and industry organizations to share the videos widely, extending their reach into classrooms, professional networks and horse associations. Their dedication and creativity exemplify going the extra mile on behalf of the feed industry.
