On the Operation Absolute Resolve briefing:
"Yeah, Guy, I think I would start just telling America you can be very proud of your military. General "Raizin" Caine gave us a blow-by-blow description. And just as he described the bravery of our soldiers-and most of the really incredible brave things they've done are not out in the public yet, and I can't share them-but they brought tears to my eyes. I served in the military, my dad, my brother, and my son is serving; just absolutely brought tears to my eye. The complexity of the mission, their integration of all the different pieces of that puzzle, the precision that was performed; we just can't compliment them enough. I think next, though, the Democrats are saying there's not a plan. There is a plan. Marco Rubio is wicked smart. He described to us a plan as much as he could. Look, we can't predict exactly how Venezuela is going to react to everything, but to me, it's very clear what our goals are. We want to stop the drug flow into our country, we want to increase the flow of oil from Venezuela, and we want the Americas to be safe again. If that means turning the Monroe Doctrine into the "Donroe" Doctrine. Look, Americans, we do not want China in Venezuela overseeing that oil, we don't want China in the Panama Canal, we don't want China offshore in Cuba with the navy ships. So, I think it's very clear their goal. And then the mission of the United States is to provide stability, to bring back law and order, and to control that cash from the oil and use it to manipulate the Venezuelan government. And I know none of us trust Delcy Rodríguez, the new-I don't even know if we can call her the president-but she does seem to bepragmatic, and she's cooperating."
"Yeah, I don't think I can comment on the first part, because it was a classified meeting. But I do think that, yes, getting to free and fair elections is a goal; without us being a nation builder. And I think that's the fine line-none of us want boots on the ground, we were reassured there are no boots on the ground right now. And to me, that's not a red line. If we have to send boots, and it's a specific mission, and it protects American interests, and puts China out of action as well. But I think that is absolutely a goal that I hear from this administration: free and fair elections."
On the War Powers Resolution vote:
"Well, certainly I'm not a constitutional lawyer, but I do have a little common sense. And it's just interesting to me that the Democrats-just depending on who the president is-is for the war powers, they're not for it, going back to Teddy Roosevelt. Teddy Roosevelt sent Marines to Honduras. And you could go through the litany of all the actions by probably every U.S. President. I think it's mostly politics. I think if you're a Democrat running percent running for president, you want to be on the front page of that. I think the Republicans that voted with the Democrats, I think that they get stuck in the theory a little bit more. Look, I'm unapologetically America First. If the President is doing things to make my family safer-which is when we put Nicholas Maduro behind bars-hopefully it slows down the flow of drugs in this country. It's the number one killer of our young adults. So this is just the Democrats continuing with their Trump-phobia, their Trump-itis, it's a full-blown psychosis now. If Trump does it, it's got to be wrong."
On the new dietary guidelines:
"I think most importantly, it puts food back in the center of our health. You want to talk about health care reform, and subsidies, and ACA, the most important thing that we can do this year is turn America back in the right direction when it comes to nutrition. 90 percent of the dollars we spend on healthcare is because of chronic disease, 40 percent of our youth are obese, one-third of them have diabetes or pre-diabetes. I mean, I can't tell you enough how poor of health that America is in. I think America was absolutely hungry for a new food pyramid, so we literally flipped the food pyramid. Previously, the emphasis was on carbohydrates; 50 percent of your diet coming from carbohydrates, and then you throw in the fruits and vegetables and a little protein. We flip that. We're saying that you should get more calories from protein; that means beef, pork, chicken, turkey, those types of things. So, more of your calories from protein. That whole milk is a good thing, whole milk products like cheese and real yogurt are good things as well. And of course, we want more fruits and vegetables. I think that this is a common-sense diet, the diet that many of us-I'm a fifth-generation farm kid-this is the diet that we were raised on. And get away from the ultra-processed foods, get away from something. If you're opening a sack of potato chips, a sack of anything, or most boxes, then that's ultra-processed food. I would go back to this: if God made it, it's probably healthy for you."
On the updated childhood vaccine schedule:
"Yeah, I hope first and foremost is that these changes put more trust back in the CDC and restore the sanctity of the doctor-patient relationship. Guy, for every day for 25 years, I delivered a baby. In a given day, I would see 20 or 30 pregnant women, and the closer they got to that due date, they would ask my opinion on these vaccines. And I just saw it grow from early in my career, I don't know, 9 vaccines, up to 15 of them. We went from 20 jabs to 76 jabs. So, what I like about this is they restored the doctor-patient relationship. But I have confidence in you, I have confidence in your listeners, I have confidence in your doctor to go in and talk. This is like starting a new drug; you wouldn't start a new drug without having the pros and cons or risk benefits given to you. Very specifically, we went from 17 vaccines that were, quote, "required" to really 11. So, there's 11 that they recommend for every child, there's another half dozen that they say, "Look, if you have a high risk, you should get these extra ones." And then there's some-the flu vaccine, the COVID vaccine-that I think is just totally, we're not going to tell you what to do-you and your doctor decide if you need some of that. But really, it's going to put faith in the American people and their doctor to come to a decision together. And we need more research to sort this out, but I think it's a step in the right direction and a good, happy landing spot."
" I think time will tell, and the science is continuing to change. But emphasize we're still recommending MMR (measles, mumps, rubella), we're still emphasizing, requiring polio, DPT. I mean, those are the ones that we, you know, I think we need to keep our hands around as well. But on the other hand, and by the way, I was a Rotarian, raised lots of money for polio, and I'm very proud of the work that we did and what the polio vaccination has done. But I think that, on the other hand, look, the COVID vaccine has been known to kill children, and I don't know of a child that was otherwise in normal health that died from COVID. So, I just think that the truth needs to come out, and that parents can figure this out. You make a great point. I think that these new guidelines, though, will be a great start, and we'll see how it works out, I guess."
On the patient-doctor relationship:
" Exactly, Guy. And I think you prove my point: you, your young son; you're unique. And I think that the same vaccination schedule I would suggest for your son would probably be different than one I might, you know, for someone who lives in Africa, where hepatitis is rampant. One of the good things I really like about this new schedule, though, is making the hepatitis vaccine something to talk to your doctor about based upon risk, but not give it at one day. As much as your concern is, "Will these viruses reemerge?" I'm also concerned about the high incidence of autoimmune problems that we really don't have an answer for what's causing them. Let alone the autism debate, and ADHD, and all those things. I think that we don't know; we know so little about our immune systems. And I think giving any type of vaccine that's not absolutely necessary at day one interferes with the development of that baby's immune system. And the truth is, we don't know yet, but when in doubt, do no harm. I'm glad we're delaying the hepatitis based on your risk factors. But again, I would want to sit down with you, your spouse-and sometimes we bring in grandmas as well-and say, "Look, what do you think about this?"
"Well, Guy, I want everybody to have affordable, meaningful access to health care. And if you are on Obamacare right now, the average deductible $5,000-$10,000, and you're making $60,000 a year, that's not access to health care, right? So, to your point, it's broken, it's totally broken. Remind your listeners that, though the Biden era subsidies have gone away, the original Obamacare subsidies are still there. So, for people making less than $120,000 a year-a family-we're still paying 80% of their premium."
" Thanks, Guy. Yeah, no one's getting that part of it. So right now, we're sending $150 billion a year to these damn big insurance companies, and it makes no sense to me. If we're going to do anything with that money, I want to give it to the patient. I want to make the patients consumers again. President Trump tweeted about this again today, and we as Republicans need to figure it out. So, you know, the last thing I did before I hopped on this call is I worked with a couple of other leaders in healthcare, Republican side, saying, "We need to agree on what to do with this money, how do we phase it out?" a whole lot of little things like that. But we cannot keep sending that $150 billion a year to the insurance companies; that's when the fraud happens. When people have zero premiums, that's when the fraud happens. These are ghost patients. These patients don't even know they're on Obamacare; they got signed up without their knowledge, without identifying them, without an ID. We don't know if they're citizens or not, a whole bunch of things. So there's $25 billion of fraud. You think that this thing in Minnesota is bad? This will be worse when we finally can get inspector generals in there and sniff this thing out. So we just need to, we need to move on, we need to take part of that money-not all of it-that we're spending, and help people at their premiums. And let them figure out what to do with the money-let's make patients consumers. Last point is, we do have a price tags bill that would force every health care company, anyone that delivers health care, to show the prices up front. We want to turn patients into consumers. We think that this bill will save the average American family $1,000 a month."
On supporting the Hyde Amendment:
"Yeah, 100 percent. As I said, I delivered a baby every day for 25 years; my heart will always protect the unborn. And it's the law of the land, the Hyde Amendment is the law of the land-no federal dollar shall be used for abortion. And you have my word, my commitment, that we're not going to stray fromthat."
