In light of the EU-AU Summit in Luanda six months ago and commemorating the establishment of the Organisation of African Unity (OAU) on May 25 in 1963, the European Union Delegation met with the African Union in Geneva for the seventh EU-AU Ambassadors' Dialogue, reaffirming the strength and strategic importance of the partnership between the two continents.
Chaired by the EU Head of Delegation, Ambassador Deike Potzel, and Ambassador Eunice Luambia, Permanent Representative of Zambia and current Chair of the African Group, the dialogue brought together representatives from both regions to coordinate positions, exchange views, and discuss issues of common interest.
The meeting took place shortly after the World Health Assembly, highlighting the close cooperation between the European Union and African partners on global health challenges. Participants inter alia exchanged views on strengthening the global health architecture, supporting more resilient and equitable health systems, and discussed shared priorities around global health, such as closing the digital divide, promoting inclusive and human-centred digital governance, and advancing multilateral reform. Building on previous dialogues, dedicated subgroups in the areas of health, digital transformation, and migration were created. The EU further expressed its commitment to continue mobilising aid, logistics, expert support and health-security tools to help countries affected by the Ebola virus contain the outbreak and reduce the risk of further transmission.

These thematic discussions have become an important mechanism for developing concrete cooperation and identifying joint initiatives in international Geneva. As the seventh edition of this dialogue demonstrated, the EU-AU partnership remains a vital platform for consultation and cooperation. In a rapidly changing global environment, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to working together, strengthening multilateralism, and translating common priorities into concrete action.
