RALEIGH, N.C. - Balfour Beatty's operations in the Carolinas is proud to announce significant milestones on transformative public works projects that strengthen infrastructure, enhance education and create vibrant community spaces in Raleigh, North Carolina. These achievements reflect the company's commitment to delivering essential facilities through collaboration and strategic partnerships with industry-leading firms and public agencies.
From joint ventures that brought the Southeast's largest adventure playground to life at Dix Park, to partnerships delivering complex office environments that support critical state agencies, these projects demonstrate how teamwork and shared expertise drive exceptional outcomes for local communities. By working hand-in-hand with partners, Balfour Beatty leverages innovative solutions, efficient delivery and long-term value for the people and the institutions we serve.
Key project highlights include:
-
Gipson Play Plaza at Dix Park: Completed in April, this 18.5-acre adventure playground-the largest in the Southeast-features 10 distinct play zones and ADA-accessible routes. Delivered through the Balfour Beatty and Holt Brothers Construction joint venture, the project required advanced engineering and innovative solutions to transform Raleigh's historic park into a world-class destination.

North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) Office Building Phase 1: Completed in Fall 2025, the project features a 480,000-square-foot, 11-story high rise office with a central utility plant and nine-story parking deck. Delivered through a tri-venture between Balfour Beatty, Barnhill and D.A. Everitt, the site and utility infrastructure supports improvements for state health services.

Johnston County Regional Park Phase 1: As Johnston County's first regional park, this approximately 80-acre, amenity-filled recreation complex broke ground at the end of 2025 to serve current and future resident recreational needs. The design-build team consisting of Balfour Beatty and McAdams are currently delivering the first phase which involves approximately 16 acres of the park and features four pickleball courts, two basketball courts, parking, fishing dock and picnic shelter. Remaining phases will include other amenities such as multi-use fields, disc golf course, skate park, adventure playground, dog park, walking trails and amphitheater.
"These projects demonstrate the dedication and expertise of our Carolinas team and our valued partners," said Jeff Sandeen, Balfour Beatty president in the Carolinas. "Together, we are delivering public projects that make a lasting impact on communities and institutions across the region."
