West Jordan Citizen Academy: The All-Access Experience

Have you ever wanted to shoot like a SWAT officer? Cut up a car with the Jaws of Life? Drive a snowplow?

Do you have questions about your city government but never know who to ask? Now is your chance.

Join us for the City of West Jordan's Citizen Academy! We offer this free course to anyone who wants to know more about local government. You don't need to be a West Jordan resident to participate. Meet the mayor, police officers, water and street workers, and more.

Attend the next six classes and graduate with an official Citizen Academy Certificate!

Coming Up:

  • April 1: Ride one of our park lawnmowers! Get a tour of our public service equipment and see an electricity demo.
  • April 8: Get to know our police officers and K9s and even shoot a few rounds of Simunition.
  • April 15: Come see our water tanks, pump house and see how we use tiny cameras to inspect our pipes.
  • April 22: Drive a snowplow! See our drones, get a tour of public works.
  • April 29: Experience a day in the life of a firefighter. Cut open a car with the Jaws of Life, see the fire stations up close and explore a ladder truck.
  • May 6: Learn how to be prepared for your own emergency at home. And, if you attended six sessions this is Graduation Day! You will be awarded a certificate and served a special dinner to celebrate.

Don't take our word for it. Here is what your neighbors had to say about last year's Academy:

"A few people do a lot to keep the city running. It was incredible to see how and where resources are spent and how I can change certain habits or activities to support the city."

"Every week I learned something new."

"Every citizen should learn what it takes to run a city."

"This program is a MUST-attend one. My wife and I have started advertising it to our friends and neighbors."
