State Board of Education Announces 2024-2025 Student Advisor Elect

Juneau, AK - The State Board of Education has selected the 2024-2025 Student Advisor Elect as Amber Sherman of Wasilla, AK.

Amber is a student at Career Tech High School (CTHS) in Wasilla, where she participates in a multitude of student activities including clubs, student government, Youth Court and the mentoring of her fellow students. She is a Volunteer Attorney for the Mat-Su Youth Court in Palmer, where she represents juvenile clients in a courtroom setting, and is an Elected Parliamentarian in the CTHS Student Government. Amber is a first-place winner in the World Language Declamation for Russian II monologue and dialogue.

Students involved with the Alaska Association of Student Governments (AASG), amongst other routes, can apply and are interviewed by the AASG Executive Board for consideration of the SBOE's Student Advisor role. Students are then interviewed and selected by current SBOE members. Amber's role will include attendance of SBOE meetings, AASG conferences and meetings, and reporting on state-level activities to the AASG Executive Board.
