Brookfield Asset Management (BAM) stock rose 6.7% on Monday, November 2, 2026, while the S&P 500 fell 0.5%. Brookfield and CPP Investments said that day they had completed their purchase of LXP Industrial Trust. All five of the stock's Trefis peers rose as well, with two of them gaining 3.8%. What did that purchase involve, and how does it fit Brookfield's business?
Brookfield Completed Its Purchase Of LXP Industrial Trust
Brookfield and the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board, or CPP Investments, said on November 2 that they bought LXP Industrial Trust in an all-cash transaction. The deal values LXP at about $5.2 billion, including net debt and preferred equity. Brookfield had no earnings report or SEC filing on Monday or the Friday before it. The deal closed the same day the stock rose, but no source ties the rise to it.
During its August 5 call, management said sentiment continues to improve in real estate. The client money Brookfield earns fees on, known as fee-bearing capital, reached $672 billion in the second quarter of fiscal 2026, up 19% over twelve months.
Did Brookfield Rise With Other Asset Managers?
Yes, and it rose by more than any of them. All five companies on the Trefis peer list for Brookfield gained between 2.2% and 3.8%, with KKR and Ares Management at the top of that range. Two of the five also had news of their own that day: Apollo launched European Credit Company, and a Blackstone-led group agreed to invest in LNG Canada. The SPDR fund for the financial sector, XLF, rose 1.9% on a day the broad market fell, so Brookfield moved with its group and its sector, not against them.
Where Does Brookfield Stock Stand Now?
The stock had not seen a rise this large in the past year, and its only move of that size either way was a 6.7% fall on February 3, 2026. Monday's advance capped a strong month for Brookfield, which saw the stock return 14.8% from October 2 while the S&P 500 lost 2.3%.
Over the twelve months to November 2, though, the stock lost 0.3%, while the S&P 500 returned 11.8%. Its $51.47 close sits below its highest close of the past year, $55.86 on August 13, 2026, and above its lowest, $42.87 on March 24, 2026. The shares trade at 17.1 times sales, against 3.3 times for the S&P 500.
Brookfield is due to report its third-quarter fiscal 2026 results later in November 2026. The figure to watch is fee-related earnings, which reached $808 million in the second quarter and were up 20% from a year earlier.
Now You Know Brookfield Asset Management. Here Is A Better Way To Invest
Before you decide on BAM, consider owning 30 quality companies instead of one. The Trefis High Quality (HQ) Portfolio has returned 105% since its September 2020 launch, ahead of a benchmark that combines the S&P 500, S&P MidCap and Russell 2000.
