Construction work will continue throughout the month of November

San Francisco - Caltrans is continuing emergency barrier rail repairs on U.S. 101 and Interstate 80 in San Francisco starting Sunday November 17th at 12:01 AM to 11:59 PM. The work requires the closures of the westbound I-80 to northbound U.S. 101 connector ramp. The southbound U.S. 101 Central Freeway on ramp at 7th & Harrison will also be closed. The closures are necessary to allow crews to safely access the worksite to repair and replace damaged concrete barrier and tubular railings. Motorists will experience delays and are urged to use alternate routes.

The upcoming repairs are the next in a series that began in October on the Central freeway this year. The repairs will require full ramp closures as described below:

  • Sunday, November 17, 12:01 AM to Sunday November 17, 11:59 PM (24 hours):
    • Westbound I-80 to Northbound U.S. 101 connector ramp closed.
    • Southbound U.S. 101 Central Freeway on ramp at 7th and Harrison St. closed.

Map below shows the WB I-80 to NB US-101 connector ramp closure and detour. The SB US-101 Central Freeway on ramp at 7th & Harrison will also be closed.

To reach downtown San Francisco from NB US-101

  1. Take Cesar Chavez off ramp
  2. Follow signage for Bayshore Blvd.
  3. Make a U-turn at Bayshore Blvd and follow signs to NB US-101.

Traffic Control Measures:
Changeable messages and directional signs will be in place to assist motorists traveling in the area. During the closures, the California Highway Patrol (CHP) will be at the sites. Please drive with caution. Caltrans thanks motorists for their patience while we work to maintain our state's highways, bridges, and tunnels.
