Congresswoman Sylvia Garcia Condemns Supreme Court Decision Limiting Nationwide Injunctions

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, Congresswoman Sylvia Garcia (D-TX-29) issued the following statement in response to the Supreme Court's decision limiting nationwide injunctions:

"Today's decision is dangerous, opening the door for Donald Trump to start implementing one of his most extreme, unconstitutional policies: ending birthright citizenship.

"By stripping federal courts of their ability to issue nationwide injunctions-especially when executive or congressional action would create far-reaching and repercussions for people, rendering them unequal depending on where they live-the Supreme Court has weakened one of the last lines of defense against any unconstitutional abuse of power.

"The ruling doesn't just threaten children born on U.S. soil, it threatens the very principle of equal protection under the law. The 14th Amendment clearly guarantees citizenship to all people born in this country. Trump cannot rewrite the Constitution with a pen, and the Supreme Court should not be enabling him.

"I call on Congress to take immediate action to reaffirm the constitutional right to birthright citizenship and to protect the integrity of the judicial system and its ability to check executive overreach."
