Cheektowaga Man Sentenced for Recklessly Killing Another Drive in West Seneca Crash

Monday, September 8, 2025

Erie County District Attorney Michael J. Keane announces that Alan P. Bulera, 49, of Cheektowaga, was sentenced this morning before Erie County Court Judge Kenneth Case. Bulera received an indeterminate sentence of 2 to 6 years in prison. As part of the sentence, his New York State driver's license was revoked.

On Sunday, August 11, 2024, at approximately 6:00 p.m., the defendant was driving his SUV at a high rate of speed eastbound on Clinton Street when he recklessly caused a rear-end collision with a minivan at the intersection of Borden Road in the Town of West Seneca. The defendant and the other driver were taken by ambulance to ECMC. The victim, 76-year-old Irene Mair of West Seneca, was pronounced deceased at the hospital. The defendant was hospitalized for a few weeks to be treated for injuries.

In June 2025, Bulera pleaded guilty to one count of Manslaughter in the Second Degree (Class C felony). The defendant entered the guilty plea to the second count in full satisfaction of the indictment.

DA Keane commends Assistant Chief William Pelow, Detective Gerald Fibich, Officer Matthew Greenan and Officer Christofer Albert of the West Seneca Police Department Accident Investigation Unit for their work in this investigation as well as victim advocate Cathy Mitchell.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Bethany A. Solek of the Vehicular Crimes Bureau.
