Congressman Cohen Signs Discharge Petition to Bring Ban on Stock Trading to the Floor

WASHINGTON - Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9) today signed a discharge petition to bring the Restore Trust in Government Act to the House floor for a vote. The petition requires 218 signatures. The Restore Trust in Government Act would end the practice of Members of Congress, the President and the Vice President trading stocks.

Congressman Cohen made the following statement:

"A majority of Democrats in Congress and the vast majority of the public think it is time to end the practice of members trading in individual stocks. The Restore Trust in Government Act introduced by Congressman Seth Magaziner of Rhode Island and which I have requested to cosponsor, would end the practice of Members of Congress, the President and the Vice President trading stocks, and is the right thing to do. A Republican-led effort to ban stock trading does not extend to members of the executive branch."
