Play Ball! Opening Day Festivities Set for March 14–15

San Rafael's rich tradition of youth baseball and softball continues this March as both leagues celebrate Opening Day with community festivities across the city. Youth baseball has been played in San Rafael since the 1880s, and in 1937 Jacob Albert donated the land that became Albert Park to create a sports field for young people.

On March 14, 2026, San Rafael Little Leaguewill host its Opening Day ceremony at Albert Park. The celebration includes a parade through downtown starting at City Hall and ending at Albert Park, followed by an opening ceremony, BBQ, and family-friendly activities like face painting.

That same weekend, San Rafael Girls Softball-a fastpitch league serving athletes from TK through age 15-will kick off its season with more than 200 players across 18 teams representing neighborhoods and schools throughout San Rafael. Opening Day takes place Saturday, March 14, followed by the Opening Day Parade on Sunday, March 15. Teams will create floats and parade from Marinwood Market to Bernard Hoffman Field, the league's home field, for a community celebration beginning at 10:00 a.m. PT.

Community members are encouraged to come out, cheer on San Rafael's young athletes, and celebrate another exciting season of local baseball and softball.
