Mobile operations also require safety to be priority

During National Work Zone Awareness Week, the Kansas Department of Transportation and its safety partners are sharing personal stories each day to illustrate why safety is critical in work zones.

Friday safety blog:

Mobile operations also require safety to be priority

Many daily maintenance tasks along the turnpike take place in a mobile work zone such as barrier wall repairs, temporary pothole patching and sweeping. With the work moving with the crew, so does the work zone.

According to KTA Safety Coordinator Andrew Booth, these mobile operations reduce the time crew members spend in live traffic, and they minimize delays for drivers.

But even with warning trucks/signs, crash attenuators and flashing lights, crews are still vulnerable. In fact, several attenuator trucks have been struck in the last few years.
