New Yorkers have spent $2 billion more on gas since the beginning of President Trump's war
Today, U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) held a virtual press conference to discuss the damage done by President Trump's war with Iran, which has cost the U.S. billions of dollars and weakened American national security.
"President Trump's war with Iran has been a disaster from start to finish. This war has degraded our military readiness, endangered our national security, and driven up costs here at home," said Senator Gillibrand. "New York families have paid hundreds more at the gas pump since this war started. Working Americans are struggling here at home while our president damages our country's credibility abroad. That is a profound failure and an international embarrassment for our country."
New data from the Joint Economic Committee shows just how costly the war with Iran has been for New Yorkers. As of last week, the average New York family had spent $298 more on gas since the war began. Collectively, New Yorkers have spent $2 billion more on gas since the beginning of the war, and Americans nationwide have spent nearly $50 billion more.
In today's press conference, Gillibrand also discussed how the war has weakened American security and damaged our country's credibility abroad.
Senator Gillibrand has been a staunch opponent of President Trump's reckless war in Iran. She has voted yes multiple times on war powers resolutions to reassert Congress' responsibility, demand accountability, and send a clear message that military force must be debated, justified, and authorized before American lives are put at risk. She has also repeatedly called for the president to prioritize lowering costs at home rather than reckless foreign wars abroad.
