City and Hilton Officials Commemorate Milestone as Signia by Hilton Indianapolis Tops Off at 38 Stories

Indianapolis' first Signia by Hilton property transforms the skyline

INDIANAPOLIS - Just more than a year after the City's largest concrete pour took place at the foundation level of Signia by Hilton Indianapolis' hotel construction site, the project has reached its highest structural concrete point, which will include the Sky Lounge and Mezzanine on the 37th and 38th floors and offer breathtaking views of downtown Indianapolis. The property will be Signia by Hilton's first hotel in both the state and the Midwest, introducing the region to the approachable luxury brand's elevated guest experiences through exceptional design, wellness, dining, and world-class meetings and events.

To commemorate the milestone, Indianapolis city officials and Hilton representatives gathered inside what will be the largest ballroom in Indiana, in what will be the city's tallest hotel, to celebrate the topping-off of the 800-room Signia by Hilton Indianapolis. The ceremonial event also marked construction being 62% complete and on-schedule to open in the fall of 2026.

"If Indianapolis wants to keep rising as a city and as a prime destination for people from all over the world, it is vital that we invest in projects like the Signia by Hilton and expand the Indiana Convention Center," said Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett. "The way this building is transforming our skyline is truly a sign of all the success that is to come."

CIB Executive Director Andy Mallon said, "The hotel and convention center expansion we are celebrating today is the direct result of Indianapolis community leaders, government leaders, and businesses consistently working together to make our downtown a highly sought-after destination for events and tourism. This hotel will change the skyline and, because we will be able to host more events, bigger events, and more culturally significant events, it will also change downtown Indy's economy, both for the better."

Once completed, the hotel will feature close to 100,000 square feet of versatile meeting space, including a 50,000-square-foot ballroom, and will provide direct access to the Indiana Convention Center and Lucas Oil Stadium via a skywalk over Capitol Avenue. Guests can expect seven culinary concepts including an upscale fine-dining restaurant; rooftop sky bar and pool; a state-of-the-art fitness center; wellness-focused guest rooms; and Club Signia, a premium offering for guests that elevates the entire stay.

"Signia by Hilton Indianapolis will be more than a hotel, it will be a transformative destination that reimagines hospitality in the Midwest," said Kathy Heneghan, general manager, Signia by Hilton Indianapolis. "From its skyline-defining architecture to its world-class amenities and event spaces, this property reflects the vision driving Indianapolis forward. We look forward to opening our doors and embracing the spirit of our incredible city and welcoming team members and guests into a space designed to inspire, connect, and elevate every experience."

The impressive addition to the city's skyline comes with impressive construction statistics:

  • Almost 50 guest rooms are complete including carpet, paint, accessories, etc.
  • More than 68 outreach meetings have taken place to encourage and facilitate participation by local businesses.
  • More than 2,300 construction jobs have been created.
  • As many as five cranes have been on the construction site at one time
  • 5,100 of the 5,900 panes of glass have been installed

"As an Indy-founded company with deep roots in this city, this milestone brings immense personal and professional pride and is a tremendous achievement for everyone involved," said Dan Shumaker, EVP, AECOM Hunt Central Region. "Reaching this moment is the result of months of work by our skilled teams and is a testament to their world-class craftsmanship at every level. We've drawn on - and invested in - our incredible pool of local Indy talent, creating more than 2,300 Hoosier jobs to date - with thousands more expected by the project's completion. Our partnerships have grown stronger every step of the way through this project, and we're especially grateful for the leadership and vision of the City of Indianapolis and the Capital Improvement Board, which have been instrumental in making this project possible. From the largest concrete pour in city history to now topping out the city's tallest hotel, we're proud of our collaborative work to help deliver a project that will transform the skyline and strengthen Indy's position as a national destination."

The hotel will be directly connected to the Indiana Convention Center via a climate-controlled skywalk, bringing the total number of downtown connected hotels to 12 with more than 5,200 connected rooms, the most of any city nationwide. The last convention center expansion was completed in 2011 in conjunction with the JW Marriott. The addition of Signia by Hilton Indianapolis marks the sixth expansion of the Indiana Convention Center and is the result of nearly a decade of planning. When complete, it will feature one of the nation's 10 largest convention center ballrooms, enabling Indianapolis to host two citywide conventions simultaneously. According to Visit Indy, the development has already secured $1.3 billion in retained convention business and generated interest in $1 billion in new bookings, with groups reserving space as far out as 2036. During the ceremony, Visit Indy President & CEO Leonard Hoops announced that the American Society of Safety Professionals will host its annual meeting in Indianapolis in June 2030, utilizing the Signia Grand Ballroom for a general session of 10,000 attendees, a convention projected to generate $11.5 million in economic impact.

With the approval of the City-County Council, the City of Indianapolis took over financing the project with $625 million in hotel revenue bonds. Partners in the project include construction manager AECOM Hunt, design firm Ratio Design, Central Indiana Building and Construction Trades, and concrete subcontractor FA Wilhelm Construction.
