At an extended meeting of the Board of the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Chairman of the Management Board of JSC NC QazaqGaz, Alibek Zhamauov, presented the company's performance results for 2025 and outlined its objectives for 2026.
In 2025, total trunk gas transportation reached 88.5 billion cubic metres. In the upstream segment, five subsoil use contracts were signed (Maldybai, Shalkar, Akkuduk, Severnoye-2 and Saralzhyn). Strategic partners were brought in for three of these areas, while exploration work on the remaining two will be carried out by QazaqGaz Exploration and Production LLP.
Agreements were also signed with key strategic partners: for the Severnoye-1 block - with CNPC for exploration works; for the Kamenkovsky block - with Eni for joint study. Under the KT-III project, pursuant to the agreement with Chevron, processing and interpretation of 3D seismic data have been completed and an economic assessment is currently under way.
It was separately noted that a report has been prepared analysing prospective structures for the development of new underground gas storage facilities along the main gas pipeline routes.
The priorities for 2026 include:
securing 22 new subsoil plots for QazaqGaz;
signing subsoil use contracts for Severnoye-1 with CNPC and for KT-III with Chevron;
continuing the joint study of the Kamenkovsky block with Eni;
obtaining three licences for geological exploration in the Central Pre-Caspian, Teniz and Shu-Sarysu basins;
assessing the prospects of the Balkhash sedimentary basin.
The Head of QazaqGaz also reported on the progress of major infrastructure projects. Construction of a gas processing plant with a capacity of 1 bcm at the Kashagan field is 55.67% complete, with delivery of the main equipment 95% finalised. Under the second string of the Beineu-Bozoy-Shymkent trunk gas pipeline project, basic design has been completed in full, while engineering surveys stand at 98%.
In the gas motor fuel segment, 24 CNG filling stations are currently operating in Kazakhstan, including seven under QazaqGaz. In 2026, a further four stations are planned to open in Almaty, Taraz and the Zhetysu region under the QazaqGaz Onimderi franchise.
A separate part of the report focused on digital transformation. As part of the Aqyl Energy project, AI-based solutions are being introduced, including an AI agent on the eGov platform, automatic meter reading recognition in the mobile application, as well as analytics and consumption forecasting tools. The "Social Wallet" service in the eGov Mobile application continues to be rolled out.
In conclusion, it was emphasised that in 2026 the company will prioritise expanding the gas resource base, delivering large-scale infrastructure projects and advancing the digital transformation of Kazakhstan's gas industry.
