City Hosts 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb on September 11

The City of Greensboro, in partnership with public safety agencies from across the Triad, will host a 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb on Friday, September 11, 2026, at First National Bank Field, 408 Bellemeade St. Gates will open to the public at 5 pm, with the commemorative program and guest speakers beginning at 5:30 pm The Memorial Stair Climb will begin at 6 pm.

This year's event marks the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks and will honor the firefighters, law enforcement officers, emergency medical personnel, and thousands of civilians who lost their lives that day.

Members of fire, law enforcement, EMS, 911 and other public safety agencies from throughout the Triad will come together with community members for an evening of remembrance, reflection, and unity.

The event is open to the public, and residents are encouraged to participate alongside first responders as we remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

Participants will climb the stadium steps in remembrance of the 343 FDNY firefighters who died at the World Trade Center; symbolically retracing the steps those firefighters took as they climbed the towers on September 11, 2001. The climb serves as a powerful reminder of their courage, sacrifice, and commitment to serving others.

September 11 is also an opportunity to remember the extraordinary unity that followed the attacks. Americans from different communities, backgrounds, and professions came together to support one another. Twenty-five years later, the Greensboro 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb provides an opportunity for the Triad community to once again stand together in remembrance and gratitude.
